LA 4195 -WEST COAST TRIP 2002

You must be at the Baton Rouge Airport by no later than 6:00 a.m. on Friday, March 29 to check in with Continental. Have someone drop you off. Parking at the airport will be very expensive.

WARNING!! In order to board the flights, US citizens must have their drivers license (photo ID) and foreign students must have their passports.

Each person is allowed two bags. It is highly recommended that you limit your baggage to two pieces because of limited space in the bus. In your one "carry on" bag have important items that you will need if the airline loses your bags. All carry on baggage must be small enough to fit in the luggage rack of the bus and plane. Do not have any knives, scissors, or sharp objects in the carry on - not allowed by security!

Packing List:

Also, you may obtain money from ATM machines. A debit card (check card) will allow you to deduct from your checking account without paying interest. Only a service fee of $1.50 (varies) will be charged. Shield the key pad from view when entering your PIN code! Also, do this when making phone card calls. Thieves watch and steal PIN code numbers. Long distance calls will not be allowed from motel rooms.

Please note that there are baggage limitations. Each person is allowed to check two bags, but since most will limit their bags to one checked bag, an ice chest can be counted as one bag. Caution: to bring perishable food with you will require ice. However, melting ice will cause the airline to remove your ice chest from the baggage area! To have ice, freeze water in empty plastic ½ gallon milk jugs that won't leak. Bring a small initial supply of food with you in the chests. There is never enough room for a large supply of cold drinks. Also, each person should bring a personal supply of non-perishable foods such as peanut butter that can be packed into the regular luggage or in sturdy boxes. Both the ice chests and the boxes will have to be strongly taped closed with duct tape. We will go to the supermarket on the second day of the trip to get larger supplies of food needed for Yosemite, etc.

MOTEL REGULATIONS: Alcohol and drugs are forbidden. Those who smoke will be required to limit their smoking to restricted areas of the motels or outside.

SECURITY: Cameras are very vulnerable to breakage and theft on field trips.

Also, remember to keep your camera on a strong strap around your neck at all times. On every trip, someone drops, forgets, or has a camera stolen!

Prior to departure, have your parents check for insurance coverage of your equipment in their "Home Owners Policy." This is usually the case.

Figure out in advance how you will protect yourself from pickpockets.

Note: Alcohol and smoking is forbidden on the bus. Please cooperate.
