Project Background

When the New Design Building was completed in 1984, funding ran out before the courtyard could be constructed. Since then, several plans for the small lot beside the Resource Center have been designed by students and professionals alike, but none have been realized because of the University's budget. Finally, the Student Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects has joined with the faculty to bring the project to completion.

Dr. Robert "Doc" Reich has taught some 1,200+ landscape architects since his arrival at Louisiana State University in 1941. His dedication to students and to the profession of Landscape Architecture is known the world over as both pioneer and innovator. The courtyard behind the College of Design building will bear his name as a living testimony of his contribution to the field throughout his tenure at LSU. With a Planting Design orchestrated by "Doc" himself and further design details crafted by a student/professor team, the courtyard promises to be a popular meeting place and much needed outdoor room for the College of Design. The LSU Student Chapter of the ASLA is looking forward to completing this project through your generous donation of materials and other means. Please contact the student chapter president or Professor Jon Emerson with any contributions or other advice. Thank you.
